Many people know Anthony Bolton the investor but few know Anthony Bolton the composer. A colleague once said that in the long run Anthony may be remembered as much for his music as his investment expertise. Guild is delighted to publish the first CD of his music which includes four works. ‘A Garland of Carols’ is a set of 10 carols and harp interlude inspired and modelled on Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’. It is performed by Oxford Voices directed by Mark Shepherd and accompanied by the renowned harpist Sioned Williams. This is followed by a song cycle ‘Black Sea’ which consists of five poems by the famous American poet Mark Strand set for tenor and piano. Anthony says ‘I was completely enthralled by his haunting poems and decided that I had to set some of them to music’. Richard Edgar-Wilson is accompanied by Fali Pavri. The third work is a solo harp piece especially written for Sioned Williams to perform on this disc. The final piece is an Anthem ‘My Beloved’ which Anthony wrote for his daughter Emma’s wedding in 2007 performed unaccompanied by Oxford Voices.

We just got through another week of intense volatility and crazy trading and in the video I look at the issues we are facing right now. We did see a follow-through day on Wednesday, but for various reasons (all discussed within), that FTD seems completely dead in the water to me as of now. Cash remains the best place to be and patience remains key. With volatility remaining high and news remaining very imprortant (see Friday’s action as a prime example), it is difficult to make any moves outside of an intraday time-frame. Don’t they remember in 2006 when they brought in the Democrats to end the wars, then they brought in Obama in 2008 to do the same, and what happened? Quantitative easing is just White Shoe Boy talk for dumping money into the economy at 0% interest rates. All we hear about is free markets and capitalism. That is until the big guys fail. Because if they fail the world will end. The only way to break the chains is to take their power away from them. These are the same people you couldn’t stand in high school who wanted to be on the student council who sucked their way to the top. They took all the good jobs and sent them to China. First, you have to stop spending money that you don’t have. Buy only what you can afford and buy local. A local economy needs to be built everywhere so that we can help each other. That is a formula that worked before. They took a population of proud people who were craftsmen and now they have turned us into service workers. We don’t want total protectionism. The corporations have outsourced their production to China, then they ship the product back to America and sell their goods at a markup. It’s an unlevel playing field with the multinationals.
