Strategise Your Investments in Stock Market

Stock markets have always been elusive to the common mans’ dream of earning quick bucks. They are like a child’s play ground requiring courage, zeal to excel and being a step forward than your competitor.  However discipline is paramount and synonymous to success. A disciplined investor knows how to limit losses and maximise profits.

The ingredients of success in a stock market are very basic namely surplus money, risk appetite, intuitive skills, rational approach and a flexible strategy.

Anyone can earn money if he can predict the trend and take a position accordingly. However, the art of trading or investing may not come naturally to one. We need to practice in order to develop the art. We need to be chivalrous, understand the market makers psychology and out-smart him.

Asset Allocation: implies balancing your exposure in various asset classes of Equity and Derivatives. One may invest 80% of their portfolio’s worth in Equity and the remaining 20% in Options (Derivatives). As the risk appetite increases and the understanding of market dynamics unfolds, the % of asset allocation may be tilted but not beyond 60% equity and 40 % Derivatives.

To elaborate more on the Strategic part of investments I shall quote an example.

Nifty50 is composed of stocks of top 50 most reliable and consistent Blue chip companies of India. Nifty50 is a diversified index and thus has companies from different sectors like FMCG, Oil & Gas, Metal, Realty, Bank etc. The fluctuations in the index may be because of Market news, Sector specific news, Stock Specific news. One sector may go up leading the Nifty50 index higher whereas some other sector may pull the index down. Herein you may have the following kinds of trading strategies.

BUY in EQUITIES & SELL IN OPTIONS (PUT) – This is known as hedging. One may adopt such a strategy if he’s not sure of the market direction. The net profit/loss is very minimal. However if the trend is certain then the trader may square off his loss making position to reap profits. WHEN MARKET IS RANGE BOUND – When the market is trending in a small range and not giving any break-out in either direction, it is better to stay put. However, if one still wishes to try his luck then he may buy Options both Call and Put – OUT the MONEY. Always have both positions open no matter what the index levels are. For example if Nifty is trending in a range of 2700 – 2900 then the strategy could be somewhat like this. When spot Nifty is at 2750, one may buy 2900 Call and 2700 Put. When spot Nifty goes up-to say 2820, 2900 call will give you profit but the 2700 Put will give loss. Book profit in the 2900 Call partly and buy 2800 Put. 2700 put will be in loss but is acting as a hedge so keep it. If Nifty reverses from 2820 level and comes down to 2730, your 2800 Put as well as 2700 Put both shall give you good profits. Book profit in 2700 Put completely and part profit in 2800 Put. At this point in time when Nifty is at 2730, you have 2900 call in loss and 2800 Put in profit. You have already booked good profit in both Put and Call. Always have both positions open and keep the exposure to bare minimum. Amount invested in Put should be equal to amount invested in Call at all times so as to hedge the position. However, when expiry is near, it is advisable to be IN the MONEY Options rather than their counterparts because the premium is less and variation in Option prices is diminished in accordance to variations in their Underlying prices. RESULT SEASON – When the result season is on, the markets are never going to trend significantly in either direction. The reactions are going to be mixed. The sentiments on a bearish day may not necessarily continue the succeeding day and vice-versa. Strategise by taking a hedge position in a certain stock. Buy Call as well as Put (Out the Money). For example if the Nifty Index has been beaten down completely because of bad results of a high ‘BETA’ company, the index has fallen more than it should have. You may buy Call (OUT the MONEY) of a strong but unexpectedly beaten down firm and just to hedge buy Nifty Put (OUT the MONEY).

The profits earned should be reinvested suitably to maintain the asset allocation ratio. Always remember that ‘Discipline’ is synonymous to success in the Stock Market. For any queries please email to Abhinav5884@yahoo.co.in

Treasury Gardens in Winter
The Treasury Gardens consist of 5.8 hectares (14.4 acres) on the south-eastern side of the Melbourne Central Business District, East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The gardens are bounded by Wellington Parade, Spring Street, Treasury Place, and with the Fitzroy Gardens across Lansdowne street to the west. They form part of a network of city gardens including Fitzroy Gardens, Carlton Gardens, Flagstaff Gardens and Kings Domain. The gardens are listed on the Victorian Heritage list for their historical, archaeological, social, aesthetic and scientific (horticultural) importance for its outstanding nineteenth century design, path layout and planting.
The Gardens are a short walk from Victoria Parliament House and are overlooked by the old Treasury buildings, and State Offices. They create a landscaped setting for office workers to enjoy during lunch with large areas of lawn and walking paths lined with mature trees. Due to their central location close to the city, they are a popular spot as the starting or ending point for political rallies, demonstrations and festivals. The gardens are also enjoyed by business people and tourists staying at the Hilton Hotel on Wellington Parade, who are able to wander through on their way to the city.
The Victorian heritage listing says “Fitzroy is unique in comparison for it scale and uninterrupted landscape. There are some horticultural similarities between Fitzroy and the Treasury Garden, attributed to the initial work of Clement Hodgkinson, however Fitzroy Gardens is unique due to the layering of history and mosaic of different landscaping styles. The avenues of mature Elms and Moreton Bay fig are some of the best tree lined avenues in Victoria.”
Mature tree species include Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla), Deodar Cedar (Cedrus deodara), English Elm (Ulmus procera), White Poplar (Populus alba), Dutch Elm (Ulmus x hollandica), Dutch Elm (small-leaved form), Port Jackson Fig (Ficus rubiginosa), Platanus x acerifolia]], Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), Agonis flexuosa, Phoenix canariensis, Washingtonia robusta, Butia capitata, Chamaerops humilis, River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla), Brachychiton x roseus, and Grevillea (Grevillea hilliana). Along the embankment of Treasury Place there are hydrangeas, ivy and flax. The gardens are highly populated with the native common brushtail possums many of which are tame and accustomed to people petting them.

The gardens contain an ornamental pond and a number of memorials:
Sir William John Clarke Memorial. Marble bust, circa 1902, located by the Treasury building. Erected by public subscription and unveiled by the Governor of Victoria on 22 July 1902.
Robert Burns Memorial. Bronze replica sculpture by G.A. Lawson of an original erected in the poet’s birthplace of Alloway in Scotland. Commissioned by the Caledonian Society in Melbourne, and first erected in St Kilda Road in 1904, and moved to the Treasury Gardens in 1970 due to roadworks.
President John F. Kennedy Memorial. Bronze bas-relief by sculptor Raymond B. Ewers. Erected in 1965 and located beside the specially landscaped pond and water fountain.
History
1850s – The area of the gardens was left as open space after failure to sell allotments due to the swampy nature of the land.
1867 – Clement Hodgkinson designed the Gardens as a pattern of diagonally crossing paths lined with trees. Willow trees were planted around an ornamental pond.
1902 – William Guilfoyle, director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne transforms the ornamental pond into a Japanese Garden. This garden is demolished after the Second World War.
1929 – management of the Gardens was transferred to the City of Melbourne
1934 – Treasury Gardens was used by the community to celebrate Victoria centenary
1939 – Toilet block built for the Spring Carnival and floral festival. Acknowledged as being of architectural importance for its uncommon art deco design, decorative pattern brick and tile construction and extensive use of wrought iron detailing, including grills, gates, lamps, signs and brick planter, exhibiting outstanding craftsmanship.
1965 – Monument was erected to the American President, John F Kennedy
1996 – Fitzroy and Treasury Gardens Master Plan was adopted by Council

Forex….Trading….Currency Exchange

Profit Big in Currency Exchange A way of winnig huge profits.Currency exchange is the trading of one currency against another. Professionals refer to this as foreign exchange, but may also use the acronyms Forex or FX.

Currency exchange is necessary in numerous circumstances. Consumers typically come into contact with currency exchange when they travel. They go to a bank or currency exchange bureau to convert their “home currency into , the currency of the country they intend to travel to.

They may also purchase goods in a foreign country or via the Internet with their credit card, in which case they will find that the amount they paid in the foreign currency will have been converted to their home currency on their credit card statement.

Although each such currency exchange is a relatively small transaction, the aggregate of all such transactions is significant. Businesses typically have to convert currencies when they conduct business outside their home country. They exportin goods to another country and receive payment in the currency of that foreign country, then the payment must often be converted back to the home currency.

Similarly, if they have to import goods or services, then businesses will often have to pay in a foreign currency, requiring them to first convert their home currency into the foreign currency. Large companies convert huge amounts of currency each year.

The timing of when they convert can have a large affect on their balance sheet and bottom line.Investors and speculators require currency exchange whenever they trade in any foreign investment, be that equities, bonds, bank deposits, or real estate.

Investors and speculators also trade currencies directly in order to benefit from movements in the currency exchange markets. Commercial and Investment Banks trade currencies as a service for their commercial banking, deposit and lending customers.

These institutions also generally participate in the currency market for hedging and proprietary trading purposes.

Governments and central banks trade currencies to improve trading conditions or to intervene in an attempt to adjust economic or financial imbalances. Although they do not trade for speculative reasons — they are a non-profit organization — they often tend to be profitable, since they generally trade on a long-term basis.

Currency exchange rates are determined by the currency exchange market.A currency exchange rate is typically given as a pair consisting of a bid price and an ask price. The ask price applies when buying a currency pair and represents what has to be paid in the quote currency to obtain one unit of the base currency.

The bid price applies when selling and represents what will be obtained in the quote currency when selling one unit of the base currency. The bid price is always lower than the ask price.
Buying the currency pair implies buying the first, base currency and selling (short) an equivalent amount of the second, quote currency (to pay for the base currency).

(It is not necessary for the trader to own the quote currency prior to selling, as it is sold short.)A speculator buys a currency pair, if she believes the base currency will go up relative to the quote currency, or equivalently that the corresponding exchange rate will go up. Selling the currency pair implies selling the first, base currency (short), and buying the second, quote currency.

A speculator sells a currency pair, if she believes the base currency will go down relative to the quote currency, or equivalently, that the quote currency will go up relative to the base currency. After buying a currency pair, the trader will have an open position in the currency pair.

Right after such a transaction, the value of the position will be close to zero, because the value of the base currency is more or less equal to the value of the equivalent amount of the quote currency. In fact, the value will be slightly negative, because of the spread involved.
